I was playing with the usual group on September 21st, 2024 at the Paradise Pointe Golf Complex in Smithville, MO on the Outlaw course. It was a heavy overcast early morning with rain threatening and we could hear thunder to the far south. On the 3rd hole I had 138 to the hole and what little wind was from the left and into us. I hit a very crispy, high 8-iron that started left of the hole and cut in slightly. I was asking for it to be the right number and it landed VERY close to the hole from our perspective and just disappeared. Since it was SOOOO dark I figured the ball was hiding behind the pin and as I walked back to the cart I could see a dark spot about 5 foot past the pin. I thought that was my ball with a clump of mud on it as the ball had taken a sizable pitch mark when it landed. Since the pin placement was at the bottom of a swale we couldn't see the base of the pin from the cart so I still didn't know. I even pulled my putter out of the bag in anticipation of an upcoming short birdie putt. When we could see the bottom of the pin I could also see that my ball landed about 8 inches short of the cup and that clump of mud I saw was just a clump of turf from my pitch mark. I had indeed scored an ACE! I guess I was excited and I forgot to take the ball out of play. I proceeded to drive it through the fairway and into the hazard on the very next tee!! Someone will find themselves a almost new ProV1 when the tall weeds die off.
