I was in my weekly league tournament this past Saturday (1/18/25). It was a cold day in Texas and the wind was blowing 15+ MPH. I was on the 3rd hole fresh off a birdie on 2; the thought of a post birdie fail was creeping in.
Wind was off the right and the yardage was 115y. I teed up my left dash and lined up my brand new (first round with it) Vokey 50F for a knockdown “let the wind kiss it softly” approach.
I aimed at the right edge of the green to the front pin. Crisp contact we all crave followed. “Oh that came off PERFECT!”
Our league pays a nice sum for CTPs. I’m thinking “they should be tough to beat” as the ball lands into the slope, checks, and spins back.
I lean over to pick up my tee thinking I’ve done enough to cozy up a kick in birdie. As I grab my tee I hear my buddy say “don’t do it.” You could hear the desperation in his voice.
I look up back up and see the ball tackling the last few feet. It dropped!!!
I blacked out.
I only remember running around screaming like I’d been lit on fire—pure revelry.
Needless to say my Vokey gap wedge is an instant favorite in the bag and that left dash will have its place on my mantle for the rest of my life with hopes of many more Pro V’s to accompany it.
Oh and I won the tournament .
Here’s to many more, boys!!
