Playing with my regular group on Saturday.
It had been awhile since we were all able to be there because of “life” events (work, kids, family).
We were the first group out and the course was pretty empty due to inclement weather conditions expected.
We pull up to hole 13, a par 3 playing 119 yards from the white tees. There was a slight drizzle coming down as we approached the tee box. I was the first to hit and I chose my 8 iron. (Two knee replacements and bulging discs in my lower back have greatly limited my swing and altered my game). I had earlier suggested to the group that we needed to start recording our Par 3’s because none of us have had a hole in one and well, you never know.
I struck the ball squarely and the shot felt normal. Upon impact, I didn’t think anything other than “ok, nice contact” and watched as the ball took flight.
The ball started a wee bit right of the pin and started leaking back towards the pin. I started to think “OK, this looks good.”
The ball landed just behind the pin (appx 4’) and we all let out a “Woo!”
The ball started coming back, and we all started talking to the ball. As it kept moving, our voices grew louder and then, THE BALL DROPPED IN!!!!!
WE ALL HOWLED!!!!!!
They said I threw my club in the air (don’t remember) and we all hugged and high-fived!!! They said I started walking toward the green (don’t remember) but then came back, I guess realizing I’d rather take the cart!
We pulled up to the green, and I walked over to the hole to verify it was my ball and sure enough, I had just confirmed my very first Hole in One!!!!!!
It was an amazing moment that I got to share with my good friends. Their excitement for my shot made it even sweeter!
Needless to say, the bar/breakfast bill was well worth it.
