    Hello TT,

I'm off and running with TPI.  My pro got me set up with the work outs, and I'm excited to gain some distance and flexibility.  Does anyone here have the bands they have on the TPI website?  I'm looking to get one, and can't decide what one I need.  I exercise regularly now, so I was thinking the heavy band would be best.

    Thanks

Hey Josh,  Have fun!  Some of the heavy bands are really tight and may not allow you to do it at speed.  Check your gym and see if they have bands that they use and see how they feel to you.  You may also be able to purchase one through them or your trainer.

I wouldn't jump right in to the heavy band.  I don't know about the TPI bands, but the bands I've used at the gym are thicker to mimic more weight.  So using the heaviest band to do an exercise would be like going to the bench press and putting all the weights on the bar.  Also keep in mind, you can also vary where you hold the band to increase or decrease weight as well.  If you can, try some out and see what feels right.  Most sporting goods stores have some version band and you should be able to "demo" them.  I used a thin band when rehabbing a knee injury and there was no fear of breaking the band or wearing it out.

    Josh,

I found two sites that have golf related exercise equipment like bands, bands with handles and medicine balls with handles.  Performbetter.com and golfgym.com.

Performbetter.com was a little cheaper.  It also appears to be where personal trainers get their equipment.

Josh, I wish you the best of luck with TPI.

For what it's worth, I literally just got my FMT bands about an hour ago.  I ordered the medium, because as others said, the heavy seemed like too much.  My thought process was that I'm not trying to knock the cover off the ball and build mass, but build stability and flexibility.

I haven't been to a training, but am using the videos and exercising on my own.  Hopefully, once the weather improves, I'll also see an improvement in my game.  I'm looking more for consistency than anything else and I blame some of that on my lack of fitness.

There are several new videos tied into the Footjoy DNA release with battling ropes and split stance bounce passes by Adam, Cable pulls by Webb, and Box jumps by Billy Horschel, These were selected by the players and are good golf drills.  Keep in mind, if you are training yourself, moderation and modifications are fine to start with - http://www.footjoy.com/dna/

    Cathi,

Is there any way to get a printable version of the workouts?  Something to keep in a log book and to refresh the memory about proper technique.

The only way I know of is to use a TPI trainer who has a monthly subscription to the site.  When they input all your data and build a recommended program for you, you will be able to print the program out. But I will check and let you know.  I believe most of them are at the PGA show this week, but will return on Monday.

    Hi TT,

I've just completed my first week of TT.  Although the exercises don't seem very challenging at first, I can already feel my mobility getting better.  My shoulders, and hips were very stiff and they're getting a little more flexible as the days go by.

One thing I never thought of was moving my hips separately from my upper body.  It hadn't crossed my mind, and it turns out I'm terrible at it.  It's getting better, and I'm excited to see where this takes me once the snow starts to melt.

Hi,  I spoke with the TPI and unless your trainer is on the TPI Pro site, there is not another way to print out the exercises.

    Hi Team Titleist,

I've been keep up with the TPI for 4 weeks now, and I'm starting to feel a little different.  For example my shoulders, hips, and back are more flexible.  I don't feel like I'm swinging any faster, further or wider, but in the video from day 1 to now, my shoulder  turn is much more complete, and my wrists are stronger through impact.  Since I live in New England I haven't been able to play real golf since early December.  On the rage, I feel better, and the ball flight is nicer.  However, the balls are rock hard and it's about 20* out.  I won't know the true impact on my game till March.

In my  experience, the program started slow, but it's picking up now.  The first two weeks were pretty basic.  It felt more like stretching than working out.  Now, the exercises have become a bit more interesting and challenging.  I actually sweat on a couple of them.  I'm looking forward to spring, and I'm confident I'll be in better form than I was last fall.  I go to Hawaii in a couple weeks and will be playing down there.  I don't have any expectations.  I'm just looking forward to warm weather and beautiful courses.  If I play well it'll just be icing on the cake.

    Hi TT,

I've still been at it, and the program is getting much more difficult.  It's moving from basic flexibility to more strength and conditioning.  I got to play some real golf in Hawaii this February, and I noticed a bit of distance increase.  Not so much with my driver as with my other clubs.  I hit my hybrid almost 10 yards further on a consistent basis.  I also hit a par 5 in 2 which is not something I usually do.

I also find myself being a bit more health conscious.  Since, I'm taking the time and effort to do TPI 3 days a week and exercising the other two, I feel like ruining it with a fatty meal isn't something I want to do.  (don't get me wrong, I'll still eat a burger, just not as often)  I'm really looking forward to seeing if this has paid off.  I've lost a significant amount of weight and also feel a lot better.  Hopefully I'll be able to keep up with my friends without taking strokes from them.

If you're thinking about doing TPI, I would advise you do.  Working out is much more fun when you're thinking about fairways and greens.

    Hi TT,

I know it's been awhile since I updated the team here, but I have to say that TPI is the real deal.  On Saturday, I just shot the lowest round I've ever had at my home course (72/131), and easily the best round I've ever played.  I put up a smooth 75, with an even par front 9.  In fact I was even through 14 holes, and had I not hit a trio of errant drives, who knows how low I could have gone.

I feel like my game and health is at a whole new level.  While I don't "feel stronger", I've been hitting it noticeably further this year.  I'm hitting shorter irons into greens and even able to reach some of the par 5's in 2.  Most of all, my back hasn't hurt at all anymore, and I'm really enjoying my time on the course even more than I thought I could.  If you're thinking about doing TPI, I'd recommend it.

To put the icing on the cake, I used a TT ball I received at the San Diego TT Invitational.

Hi Josh,  It's great to hear that you are baaacck!  Through the workouts, the shoulder injury and now a new low score :)  Many more to come, I'm sure!

Thanks Cathi. I'm going to continue to work out (at a more moderate pace to avoid injury).  I sure hope to do that again very soon.

Congrats, Josh! Great round... keep posting those low numbers and let's tee it up soon. Are you playing in the MGA Amateur Pub Links? Still time to register... I'm qualifying at the Shaker Hills event on 7/8.

    Hi Mike,

Teeing it up soon is a must!  The pub links sounds awesome, but I think I'm ineligible since I belong to a private club.  I hear Shaker is awesome.  Hit em straight!

Nice Josh!  I need to start working out again.  Kids have really gotten in the way of me staying in shape.  I might have to think more seriously about getting a TPI program next winter.  Glad to hear your seeing the results!

    Josh,

I have worked with bands for years and love them. I have light, medium, heavy and extra heavy. I usually start out with light and medium, then work my way up to light/medium/heavy/extra heavy. I also like to use "medicine balls" with the bands (and without).

T.P.I. offers a lot of great golf specific exercises. If you stay with it and follow your T.P.I. Pro's advise, you're game will improve, as well as your general health. Best of luck with your "journey"!

Lol, I'm just as liable to lose one in the woods as the next guy.  I can't wait to tee it up at Portsmouth CC
