You know......like everyone else you pick up books by great authors and those you profess to "self help" and you smile because you can relate.  I just got done with Ton Coyne's "Paper Tiger" in which a 29 year old asks the question 'What if'.  Something that I'm sure we have all at one time or another asked ourselves.  It's a venture into 15 months of solid golf trying to prepare for Q-school on the PGA Tour.  Along the way he tells of the ups and downs etc.  The BEST part in the entire book is the Titleist stood by him with golf balls and FJ golf shoes.  It was a wonderful read which begs the question....What was your favorite read in the golf section of your library?

  2. Making of The Masters is one of my favorite books especially as The Masters draws near.  Great book about the history of the course, club and tournament.  The first version I read was before I visited the tournament and later played the course in order to get a better appreciate for what I saw and experienced...I think anyone will enjoy this book if you are a golf fan and plan on attending or watching the tournament next month.

I read an old book that was easy reading and did not want to put it down until I was finished. The title is 'The Match'. It is a true story of a game between the best pros and amateur golfers at the time at Cypress Point. The golfers were Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson playing Ken Venturi and Harvey Ward. One of the characters that organized this match was Eddie Lowry who was the little caddie for Frances Quimet who won the US Open as a young boy.

The Match is an awesome book.

Another good one is The American Triumvirate by James Dobson.  It chronicles the impact of Nelson, Hogan & Snead.  Very informative.

"The Golfer's Mind" by Bob Rotella is a great book and has greatly improved my game and thought process going into each and every round.

My favorite golf-related book is The Legend of Bagger Vance.  The movie fell far short of the mark left by the book.  Great tale of a spiritual journey with some great golf and historical asides.  If you liked the movie, I think you would love the book.  If you hated the movie, but enjoy golf, I think you would love the book.

Anything by Bob Rotella is a great read, as well as educational but I think my favorite has to be "Golf is not a game of perfect".  Great stuff.

I loved that book. I bought several copies amd sent them to friends. I watched a TV interview with him about Paper Tiger late one night on the local public access channel. I ordered my copy from Amazon that evening.

Another great book by Tom Coyne is "A Course Called Ireland".

I just finished, "The Grand Slam: Bobby Jones, America and the story of Golf," by Mark Frost who is the same guy who wrote "The Match".  It was a really interesting read and was a great look at not only Jones' triumph(s), but of our country during the time period.  Highly recommended.

My favorite golf book is Bud, Sweat, & Tees:  Rich Beem's Walk on the Wild Side.  I couldn't put this book down.  Gave a good look into the life of a PGA pro transitioning from being relatively unknown into a PGA Championship winner.  Had lots of cool stories from the life out on tour.

No golf library would be complete without Harvey Penick. Each book a great read and full of life and golf lessons. "Play the shot you can play best, not the shot that would look the best if you could pull it off." Tough to argue with this in life or golf. Just happy to hear people still read in this electronic age.

My favorite golf books, or any non-fiction book really, are the ones about personal accounts of people, (auto)biographies, basically the ones that give you their perspective on things, and leave you with a better understanding, but also a fascination that you may not have had before. My favorite is Haney's The Big Miss, just read that one for the second time. Another book I enjoyed a lot was a biography about ] Faldo (something Driven? Can't remember exactly), very informative about how focused the top guys are, and just how hard they work at it. You always think it comes easy for those guys, but they all seem to have this 24/7 obsession with getting better.

The Match is a great book that I would recommend to any golf fan.  I think The Big Miss is also a really good book that gets a lot of unfair publicity.  I've heard a lot of people rip it, but I have yet to talk to anyone who has actually read it and not liked it.

I would also recommend An American Caddy in St. Andrews and The Mysterious Montague: A True Tale of Hollywood, Golf, and Armed Robbery.  Both are great books and very interesting.
