We all have witnessed the pre-round interview where the commentator asks the pro about some stupid thing that happened to the pro  the day before, intentionally trying to upset the pro and get him/her out of their game plan.  I wonder if the newsy gets extra pay if he is successful?  Of course the news person is very careful about who he attempts this on. If you notice they stay away from such encounters with high maintenance players for fear of losing future interviews.

Jim Gray, has brought confrontational interviews to a new level.  This obnoxious individual thinks that he can confront and insult players during a round just because he is a newsy.  He has no interest in the game of golf, he is their to create situations and make/create/fabricate news.  Personally, I feel this individual should be kept behind the ropes and allowed to interview the kitchen help only.

I think that as a result of this type of confrontational news reporting, we will find fewer and fewer pros stopping to conduct brief interviews and restricting all interviews to after round, in news tent exchanges.   Can you really blame them?

    Just my opinion.

I could not agree more.  Jim Gray has been this way for a long time.  What he did to Pete Rose at the all star game several years ago was embarrassing.  His interviews are a joke.  His only intention is to cause trouble.  If I have seen Jim Gray's last interview, that is fine with me

He was asked to leave the tournament where he confronted Dustin Johnson during the tournament.  His playing partner, Steve Stricker voiced his distain for Grays tactics.  TGC removed him.  He also asked Bubba if the tourney was dedicated to his dead father. Bubba was almost in tears answering on live TV.  Don't think we'll see him on the course for a long time.

He needs to work the WWF, and see what responses he gets to his dumb pre planned questions.

I say leave all the interveiws to David Ferity. He's a man thats been at the top of the game and the bottom of the game he knows what its like to have highs and lows and he is very witty and can always make a good joke if need be. Even thow he cant play the game any more i think he would make a great ambassedor for titleist.

I agree with the comments.  It's one thing to analyze and provide commentary on a player while you are in the booth (like a Faldo or Miller).  But, it's another thing all together to be a good on-course reporter/interviewer.  It takes a skill that Jim Gray hasn't mastered over his many years as a news/sports guy.  If I was a pro athlete and saw Jim Gray, I wouldn't stop to answer any questions.  I agree with the comment about Fehrety.   He always seems mindful and respectful of everyone he talks to.
