Off The Rack - A Thing of the Past- T-200 or 350?

    I've been an off the rack golf club consumer all my life.

    3 years ago I did my first club fitting after making a major club buying mistake. I made purchased a set miz irons on line which I absolutely disliked! The huge on line retailer did give me 100% credit but I had to get another set from them. I dug in my pocket and did a $100 fitting for irons. I ended up with Cal Apex, DCB irons with TT elevate shafts. Funny I did not even try any Titleist irons. But still, gotten fit for the DCB was the best decision I ever buying clubs. Well it paid off. Had a tremendous summer last year in the 3 leagues I played in. 3 wins and One 2nd Place. Team and B Division in one league.

    Long story short, after much research and studying this past winter, I set out to become an all in Titleist Golf guy. I join TT here, got in on the buy 3 get one free Pro V deal. In March had my First Titleist fitting indoors. In the middle of a swing change the fitting was very poorly performed on my part. But I walked away with a Titleist Metal recommendation. So I bought the TSR1 driver with MMT speed mesh 40 shaft and wow, best driver I ever hit. I liked it so much I bought the 3 metal same shaft. Then the 5 iron 170 club, was not working for me, it never did really, so I bought the TSR1 Hybrid 23 D. I love that club as much as the driver! Today I dinged the green 175. Missed the bird, made par. But its been like I owned that club all my life, since I put it in play.

    So I am doing another Titleist fitting next week for some new irons. My point is getting fitted for golf clubs through Titleist and my friends at Newport Indoor Golf has changed my game for the better. And my brief use of Titleist clubs has been unsurpassed in quality, engineering, and providing an option for me to play Titleist products. The best Metal woods I ever hit and it has improved my game, confidence and over all outlook with every round.

    Sometimes we search the entire world to find a hobby/sporting equipment partner, then we find it so close to home. I live 19 miles from Titleist Dr. in Acushnet Massachusetts! Now what will it be T-200 or T-350? And equal of importance, AMT Red or Black? Or KBS tour Light or Teasei Red or Blue.

    Any feedback from TT members that have any of these set ups is appreciated. Thanks RJ

    Only your fitter knows for sure…

    I’ve been an AP1 - T300 player for a decade or more. I really didn’t think the T350 would be a game changer over the T300. The feel was definitely different for me to go through a fitting. As it turns out, the feel of the T200 was better for me than the T350. Not that I’m longer, but the flight and distance have better numbers. I have 7-48 and TSR-1 26/23 hybrids. The TSR-1 FW 20 degree is equally fun to hit. The irons have Tensai AMD shafts.
    By all empirical measures I should be in the T350, but that’s why we get fit rather than use a guideline to buy off the rack.

    I could tell you what my irons are and the shafts but just because they fit my swing does not mean they are right for you. Go into the fitting with no preconceived notions on which one you need and go with the flow as the numbers reveal the right combo. Good luck with the new sticks!

    Sounds like you don't need any feedback from us, but the only advice I would give is to try to do an outdoor fitting on real turf.

    Fitting is even important for used or demo clubs.

    Even in 2008-2009 time frame I learned about lie board adjustments.

    I played “off the rack” golf clubs from 1972 until 2008 (had a few periods where I played little or no golf for 2-3 years). I used my dad’s X31 irons (which were fitted for him) between 1979-2007.

    I’m 6’1” and my dad was 6’3”.

    I do most of my business at a “mom and pop” store called Fairway Golf. Been a customer since 2009.

    Part of fitting includes set makeup. The lowest number iron that I have been playing since 2015 is a 7 iron. Since 2011 I’ve been playing my driver at 12-13* loft. For 6 years carried a Burner HT Draw M flex at 44.5”; to get a feasible swing weight had to use Dri Tac Lite 25g.

    I’ve been playing a 44” driver since 2021. It’s always been 44.5 before that mainly due to limitations on available head weighting. I’ve progressed on my ball striking where I play a 60g driver shaft (actually hover between stiff and R) and 70g on the fairways and hybrids.

    5 wood, 9 wood or 7 wood and 27H have been mainstays in middle to long game.

    I went to Titleist in 2012. 910F 19 fairway, Callie 9 wood, 910H 27H until 2015. 910F 21 and 910H 27 with my Dad’s Apex irons from 2015-2020. Started morphing AP2 6-8 irons in 2017.

    At the start of 2020 until early 2023, played 695MB 7-P.

    I have been an equipment geek for a very long time and have tried everything to self fit as I have my own shop set up in my garage. I can tell you (trust me I am a financial professional) that it is much easier and cost effective to just get fit to start with.

    I have a friend that, all his life bought clubs off the rack, especially if they were on sale. Did not and still does not believe in going to a fitting. He has a garage full of golf clubs. He is in his 80's now, can no longer play, still has a garage of various brands of golf clubs off the shelf. We don't see him very often around the course anymore, but know he is still around. Never believed in going to doctors when he was sick either, until he got the "C" word. Recovered. Life is about choices and glad you made the right choice for yourself. Sometimes we learn from our choices and sometimes we do not, as in my good friend, until we have no choice. The smile on your face tells a happy story.

    If your using the Speedmesh 40 in the woods, then why not try the Fubuki MV IR 50 in the irons ? Of course, check with the fitter. I also think that an outdoor fitting on turf is best. Also, if you live that close to Titleist, why not go to Manchester Lane for your fitting?

    I’ve been playing golf for over 20 years and finally got fitted for the first time in April. I was playing AP2 714’s, SM4 wedges, a TM Rocket Ballz 3 wood, a Titleist 4 hybrid, and a 915d2 driver.

    I very excited to demo the new T-series irons. I ultimately got fitted for and purchased a T-350 4 iron, T-200 5- 48 degree wedge, SM10 52/56/60 wedges, and a TSR2 3 hybrid. I ended up keeping 4 hybrid because I was hitting it better than any new technology my fitter could put in my hands to get me into 230-240 yards range. I didn’t get the chance to demo the new GT metals or driver unfortunately. Finally I tested out several driver configurations but I was told by the fitter to keep my 915d2 in the bag. I had not been really paying attention to any of my numbers on the launch monitor and just watching ball flight. Come to find out I had been hitting my 915d2 on average 30 further than any driver he put in my hands. If it’s not broken, don’t fix I suppose. I would like to get my hands on the new GT models and compare it to my current driver.
