I committed to playing a 4 man scramble for the Rotary Club with local bank executives that I had never met. It was a beautiful fall day in September at the Carlisle Barracks Golf Course in Carlisle, PA. We started on hole #6 (shotgun start). Hole #11 is a 167 yard shot with a large smiley face sand trap that wraps around the front of the green. The green sits down a little so you can see the flag but not the hole. This was a closest-to-the-pin prize hole for the scramble. The shot was straight at the flag and I was concerned about clearing the sand trap. We drove down to the hole and I did not see the ball on the green. Disappointed, I looked into the sand trap but no ball there either. I thought maybe the ball rolled off the small bank at the back of the green. As I walked toward the green, I decided to check the hole first and sure enough, there was lucky #13!
